Despite going to bed so late last night, I was up at 8 this morning. It was one of those weird mornings where I felt like I'd slept in, even though I hadn't. got some janky coffee downstairs, and headed to salt lake city. during the daytime, reno loses its glimmer. the lights are gone, and it looks rather bleak. it's on trips like this that i realize just how nice the scenery is in california, and how i take it for granted. it'll probably get a lot greener as spring progresses, but right now a lot of america is just shades of brown.

one thing with which we've been consistent when touring is a blatant disregard for time zones. in the car ride, we make several calls trying to determine whether nevada is in the pacific or central time zone. we have conflicting maps, one siding with each time zone. my phone is good about changing time when we enter a new zone, and it's still on pacific time. i propose that nevada is on the same system as arizona, where the time never changes. this is all a rather important question, because it means we're either right on time for our show, or an hour late. we were originally scheduled for an 8 or 9pm show, but got bumped at the last minute to a 6pm show, putting a bit of a squeeze on things. a bagging clerk at the supermarket in elko, nv says that utah's an hour ahead. she was right. we roll into kilby court as the first band of the bill, seve vs. evan, begins to play. they are really really good. keyboard and drums, one vocal. sadly, they didn't have any cds, but are about to record. the venue is in a compound of buildings, and looks almost shack-like, but in a good way. there's some nice looking green corrugated plastic up behind the stage, backlit by flourescent lights. because of our tardiness, the show is running late, so we play a short set. i chicken out of playing a song that we just wrote. after us are the
