May 28, 2005 - Hemlock Tavern - San Francisco, CA

We'd been home for about 48 hours when we showed up at the Hemlock. The jet lag hit me today more than Thursday or Friday--I can't stop waking up at 4 a.m., 5 a.m., and then 6. I dream of BBC cooking shows and when I open my eyes it takes a few minutes to identify where I am, confusing because we bought Volvic water bottles at K&D liquors the other day and this is what we drank on tour too, bottles I thought were only available in the UK.
I never recognize anyone at the Hemlock bar. CW, Dan and I went to Victor's for pizza slices after we loaded in the gear. Tony was there too.
The Papercuts played first and the room filled up. We went on next and played the full tour set except for Voices. People dance less here than in Europe; we danced more in Europe ourselves than we've done here at home. Why? I plan to dance wherever I am from now on.
It was marvelous to drink and discuss with friends not seen in a month--face-to-face conversation is much warmer than text messaging, no need to capitalize. Smog came on next and I listened to the songs I've heard so many times on CD be performed right there before the crowd, even better live than recorded. After the show we compared Saxmundham experiences with Ted.
