May 13, 2005 - The Cricketers Arms - Sheffield, UK

The sun coming through the great bay window woke me up. I called Michaela at work and Elsa, one of George's housemates, opened the door to see Dan and I there, us being complete strangers, and we took her by surprise. Then CW and CG arrived, the invasion of the Americans, with Matthew. George cooked us all a wonderful English breakfast and we hung out at his house awhile, listenened to his, Jim and William's band Sweetbriar, and then watched a comedy video, Brass Eye, in which a lady makes her fancy purebred dog get cosmetic surgery to make it look just like Ray Fiennes, and it did!
We drove off to Shefflied in the afternoon, and arrived around 2 pm to the Starbucks off the town centre to log online and figure out logistics for getting to Copenhagen and such, booked our 5 Family Berth Cabin aboard the P&O North Sea Ferry, sailing Sunday at 7 p.m. Decided not to get the all you can eat buffet, as it will likely be crappy and not worth the $20.
We picked up Mai, who flew into London this morning, at the train station on the way to the Cricketer's Arms. We met Decibully at the pub--hung out over drinks and shared tour experiences, Americans abroad. The room we played in was upstairs, smokey, and carpeted, with a busted toilet and sink disconnected and in a pile towards the back of the room. Matt and Craig brought us pita bread and hummus, sodas, cookies, juice and pasta for dinner--a lovely buffet. After eating, I went downstairs for a pint of Carling and the evening DJ was just setting up. He was marvelous.
