October 15, 2004 - Siberia - New York City, NY

We flew into JFK at 5:30 a.m. I slept a little bit after watching the cheesy movie they showed, a WWII romance. I wasn't the only one in the band to watch it, but I'll refrain from revealing who else kept his eyes peeled for the twist of death at the end of the film. We took a taxi to the hotel and there were quite a few people working there, putting in drywall or some other sort of dusty endeavor. We left our bags and guitars & gear in good faith in the bubbly entryway and followed CG as he moved quickly towards a Russian restaurant he had fond memories of. It was closed, but nearby was a place that had bloody marys on the menu but could not legally serve them until 11 a.m. or something peculiar. We wondered if the hotel would be built by the time we returned. I fell asleep in a coffee shop while the others read computer screens and pieces of paper. CW, Dan and I went back to the hotel to see if it was built. We took a spiral staircase a couple of times, met a friendly woman named Melanie and a friendly man named Claus, rode the elevator, and were told that by 2 pm things would look better. CW went to his office. CG searched for white shoes. Dan and I walked to Broadway and went into H&M for awhile. When we came out, we got some food and then Claus gave us the master key to the hotel (which opened every room!) and a room with a stellar view of the city. There wasn't any warm water, though, but that doesn't matter if you're asleep. We got two rooms for the price of one for that. Dan and I met Rob in Brooklyn for the Narnack show, which was excellent. The Intelligence are one of my fave bands, since I saw them in Portland last year. We couldn't stay for The Fall, had to go to Siberia. After the cab pulled over we asked some people on the street if they knew where Siberia was and they intentionally gave us wrong directions. We suspected as much and Dan investigated, found the red light and black door and CG outside on his phone. We played late, but it was fun, especially when the shirtless man with a hairy chest was dancing with a motorcycle helmet on. We hung out in our living room on the black couches afterwards, tempted by the snacks in the closet. Dan went out for a slice of pizza but ended up leaving one in the refrigerator.
